CPAWSB May 2022 CFE Vaccination Requirement

1. Will I be required to be vaccinated to write my exam in-person?

CPAWSB continues to follow the public health guidelines set out by the respective western provinces. We anticipate that anyone attending an in-person CPAWSB exam at this time will be required to provide proof of full vaccination with Health Canada-approved vaccines (i.e., Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen) administered no less than two weeks before the examination. We also anticipate that candidates who are not vaccinated will be required to provide a negative covid PCR test. More information on negative test requirements will be available before the CFE.

2. What COVID protocols will be followed for the May CFE?

The profession takes the health and safety of our exam writers very seriously. We will continue to follow all public health guidelines set out by the respective western provinces.

In addition to the vaccine requirement, all writers and exam staff will be required to:
  • Answer health screening questions before entering the exam centre.
  • Adhere to capacity limits.
  • Wear masks when arriving and exiting the exam centre and if any exam staff are required to enter your room. When alone in your room, you will be able to remove your mask.
Writers will be provided an individual hotel room to write the exam and will be distanced from other writers at all times. Personal protective equipment as well as sanitizer and alcohol wipes will also be available at each exam centre.

3. Will I be able to provide proof of negative test?

CPAWSB continues to follow the public health guidelines set out by the respective western provinces. We also anticipate that candidates who are not vaccinated will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test. More information on negative test requirements will be available before the CFE.

4. Will you grant medical/religious exemptions to the vaccine requirement?

We understand that some candidates remain unvaccinated due to medical or religious exemptions. If this applies to you, proof of vaccination will not be required; however, we anticipate that candidates who are not vaccinated will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test. More information on negative test requirements will be available before the CFE.

5. What is considered fully vaccinated?

We anticipate that anyone attending an in-person CPAWSB exam at this time will be required to provide proof of full vaccination with Health Canada-approved vaccines administered no less than two weeks before the examination. Health Canada-approved vaccines can be found here. The Government of Canada website also addresses what is considered a full vaccination for each approved vaccine.

6. What if I have been fully vaccinated with a vaccine that is not approved by Health Canada?

Please contact our office before April 4, 2022, to discuss your options. Some vaccines are accepted by the Government of Canada for the purpose of travel, which our team can review with you to ensure you meet the vaccination requirement and have appropriate documentation to bring to the exam centre. If your vaccine is not accepted by the Government of Canada for the purpose of travel or if you do not have appropriate documentation, then we anticipate you will be required to provide a negative covid PCR test. Information is available here.

7. Will vaccinations be required for other CPA exams?

The decision to use the hotel model and require proof of vaccination is currently applicable only for the May 2022 CFE. The profession will determine the delivery model for future CPA exams, in accordance with public health guidelines, at a later date.

8. What happens if I get sick before an exam?

If you exhibit COVID-19 symptoms before your exam, please contact cpamodule@cpawsb.ca to discuss options available to you to withdraw from or postpone your exam. Please do not arrive at an exam centre if you have COVID symptoms, as you will be sent home and told to contact your health region for further instructions.

CPAWSB May 2022 CFE Delivery

9. Will the May 2022 CFE be delivered in hotel rooms?

After careful consideration, the May 2022 CFE will take place from May 25 to May 27, and will be offered using rigorous health and safety measures and the same hotel delivery approach that allowed for the in-person writing of the September 2021 CFE.

As with the September 2021 CFE, candidates will write the May 2022 CFE at multiple hotels in the usual cities where the CFE has been held in the past. Each candidate will be assigned their own hotel room for the duration of their examination. Within each room, candidates will have access to their own washroom and writing desk.

10. What software will be used on the CFE?

You will be provided with a CPA-issued laptop at the exam centre to write the CFE. The laptop is locked down to restrict access to everything other than the exam software and CPA provided reference materials.
